Surrogacy is characterized as a reproductive method that, along with existing assisted reproduction techniques, gives all people the possibility of forming a family.
We divide this reproductive technique into 4 different profiles:
Heterosexual couples
Gay couples
Independent women
Independent men
Heterosexual couples or traditional families
There is a general opinion that the surrogate pregnancy exclusively interests gays. However, it’s not always like that.
The highest demand for surrogacy is from heterosexual couples with fertility problems.
Gay couples
For a gay couple, surrogacy is the only possibility, within the spectrum of assisted reproduction techniques, which allows them to have a biological child.
Men lack the biological capacity to gestate, hence the surrogacy has been associated with male homosexual couples.
Persons without a partner
Women alone have access to assisted reproduction techniques. Thus, thanks to the donation of semen, a woman without a partner or without a male partner can become a mother without this being a legal problem.
Other way, for many men their only option is to go abroad to perform a surrogacy with donor eggs.
On a technical level, a man is only in the same situation as a couple of men. You can provide semen (unless there is a fertility problem) to ensure the genetic relationship.
Being parents by surrogacy
Going through surrogacy puts intended parents in a unique situation, in which they cannot live the pregnancy in the first person.
There may be a feeling of frustration, dispossession of pregnancy and lack of control over it, since the pregnant woman is an autonomous person, with her own life, who also usually lives far away.
Prospective parents must be emotionally prepared and convinced to take on the entire process.
